Trimming the wooden wick of your candle is an essential step in ensuring a clean and consistent burn.  Over time, as you burn through your candle, the wick can become too long, causing the flame to flicker and the wax to melt unevenly.  Most people are familiar with cotton wicks, which need to be trimmed to 1/4 inch.  However, wooden wicks need to be trimmed to about 1/8 inch before each burn, in order to prevent these issues and prolong the life of your candles.

Additionally, a properly trimmed wick creates a calming and soothing atmosphere while also reducing the amount of soot and smoke produced during burning. Taking a few extra seconds to trim your wooden wick candle is a small but impactful way to enhance your candle-burning experience.

HOW TO DO IT

  • Ensure that the candle has completely cooled and hardened before trimming.
  • Gently trim the wick at the base with a wick trimmer or scissors, being careful not to cut too close to the wax.  Trim the wick to about 1/8 inch in length.  It's important not to trim the wick too short, as this can cause the flame to become too small or extinguish altogether.
  • After trimming, remove any debris or wick trimmings from the candle and discard them.
