Products
Our candles are crafted with para-soy wax, which is a blend of paraffin wax and soy wax. Para-soy wax maintains a strong fragrance throw and easy burning, while remining visually appealing and functional.
FRAGRANCE:
Anchor and Flank Candles proudly uses fragrance oils from a supplier that are deemed "clean," as well as safe to use and burn in the home, kitchen, studio, etc. This means these fragrance oils are free from a variety of toxins, including carcinogens, mutagens, acute toxins, reproductive toxins, and organ toxins. Ocassionally, one or two fragrance oils used in our candles may not be part of that specific "clean" line; however, our supplier is dedicated to rigorous testing and using high quality ingredients, so all of their (and, consequently, our) scents are phthalate-free and considered safe for home use.
WAX:
Believe it or not, there is quite a bit of debate as to the "toxicity" amongst different wax types. However, to date, there have not been any hard, scientific, readily available studies that categorize any particular wax as more or less toxic than others. Furthermore, there is not any conclusive evidence supporting the notion that burning common household cadles is "harmful" to human health.
CONCLUSION:
In reality, burning any material (organic, "clean," "toxin-free," etc.) is not exempt from at least some type of emissions. As such, we would feel wrong to claim our candles (or ANY candles, for that fact), are 100% "toxin-free." It has become a hot buzzword in our society, with various meanings to various individuals. That said, we do encourage adequate airflow/space when burning our candles, to allow the particles and scent to disperse evenly throughout the air. Additionally, we do our best to research and source quality ingredients for our products, and we are proud to offer hand-crafted items we feel are safe for human use.
Wood wicks are made from a thin, flat piece of wood (ours are 100% natural, untreated wood from Sappy Fruit Trees sustainably sourced in the USA), and they offer a unique alternative to traditional cotton wicks. The main difference lies in the burning experience – wood wicks often produce a soothing crackling sound reminiscent of a fireplace. Additionally, wood wicks are known for creating a wider, more even melted wax pool, leading to a cleaner and longer-lasting burn compared to cotton wicks.
For optimal performance, trim your wood wick to 1/8 inch (not 1/4 inch!) before EACH use; allow the candle to burn completely to the edges of the container on the first burn to create an even wax melt pool and prevent tunneling.
For your convenience, you can trim your wood wick using one of our Candle Wick Trimmers.
It is also important to not burn your candle for more than four hours per use. Once your candle only has 1/2 to 1/4 inch of wax remaining, discontinue burning.
If you'd like to utilize the remaining wax in your candle tin, you can place your candle on a candle warmer and enjoy the final moments of scent this way.
Occassionally, Anchor and Flank Candles offers a variety of apparel including baseball caps, beanies, tank-tops, t-shirts and hoodies. These items are not stocked year-round, however, and are typically limited in quantities when they are in stock.

Donations
Anchor and Flank Candles proudly donates 5% of all sales to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
Your purchase at Anchor and Flank Candles helps assist injured wildland firefighters, their families, and the families of those who've lost their beloved wildland firefighter(s). Oftentimes, these men and women (and their families) are left with astronomical medical bills - sometimes compounded with the loss of income - and, as a result, turn to avenues like GoFundMe to raise funds for their expenses.
Anchor and Flank Candles also donates products directly to individuals/fundraisers that aim to bring in even more funds to help our brothers and sisters in fire.
Assisting these men and women has been an integral part of Anchor and Flank Candles since its inception in 2022, and in its first two years alone, the business has helped raise over $1,600 for the wildfire community between monetary and product donations.
Yes! We have donated candles to multiple fundraisers that support wildland firefighters and the wildland fire community. If you're interested in obtaining products for a fundraiser, please reach out through our contact page here.
