MY STORY
I’m Danna, the founder and maker behind Anchor and Flank Candles. After working three seasons in wildland fire on the west coast—two in dispatch and one on an engine—I felt a calling to honor the strength and spirit of the fire community in a unique way. That calling grew into Anchor & Flank Candles, a woman-owned, small-batch candle brand now based in Aiken, South Carolina.
When the idea struck in late 2021, I knew two things: I wanted to pour something meaningful and I wanted to support my brothers and sisters in wildland fire. By early 2022, Anchor and Flank Candles was born—candles with a cause, built on experience in wildfire and a passion for artisan fragrance.
What Makes These Candles Different
Each candle is hand-poured in small batches using clean-burning parasoy wax, crackling wooden wicks, and phthalate-free fragrance oils. I design fire-themed scents that capture rugged outdoor beauty and bring warmth to your space. Based in Aiken, SC, every candle is crafted with care, intention, and community in mind.
GIVING BACK
As a nod to the wildland firefighter community, I donate 5% of every sale to support injured wildland firefighters, their families, and the families of those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. In addition to financial donations, Anchor and Flank Candles regularly contributes products to fundraisers, raffles, charity events, and nonprofit initiatives that support first responders and local communities.

Brand Name & Logo Explained:
In wildland firefighting, "anchor and flank" refers to a firefighting strategy. Firefighters start at a safe, secure "anchor point," and, from there, they work along the sides of the fire (the flanks), extinguishing flames and preventing the fire from spreading further. This strategy is crucial in our daily lives as well, in the sense that we all need a safe, secure anchor point from which to venture out and tackle life. That concept became the heart of my brand.
The mountain in the Anchor and Flank Candles logo isn’t random—it’s deeply personal. It represents Mount Redoubt, a stratovolcano in Alaska, where I grew up. Redoubt stood tall on the horizon nearly every day of my life, and seeing it always felt like an anchor point of its own—familiar, steady, and quietly powerful.
Pairing that mountain with symbols tied to the wildland fire lifestyle visually captures the heart of this brand: rugged, outdoorsy, resilient, and rooted in both fire culture and personal history. The logo reflects the journey that shaped me—from the mountains of Alaska to the fire communities I served, to now hand-pouring candles that tell a story of grit, warmth, and meaning.
